2009-2010 CHINESE PROFESSIONAL CLUB SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Mission

Provide merit scholarships and financial assistance to students of Chinese descent in the Houston metropolitan area who plan to enroll in accredited universities in the United States.

Governing Body

The CPC Scholarship Fund, Inc. is governed by a board of trustees, including the current president and six preceding past presidents of CPC, plus four at large trustees who have been lifetime members of CPC for at least two years.  The board determines the investment mechanism of the fund and the total amount of scholarships to be awarded each year. Board meetings are held twice a year with each trustee donating their time without any monetary compensation.

Award Recipient Selection Process

A scholarship committee consisting of 7-9 members of the Chinese Professional Club is responsible for determining the number of scholarships to be awarded each year and selecting their recipients. Scholarship information is publicized through area high schools, churches or newspapers. All students of Chinese descent who reside in the Houston metropolitan area and plan to attend accredited universities in the United States are eligible to apply. Selection of scholarship recipients is based on academic records, extracurricular activities, an essay on a pre-selected topic, and an interview with the scholarship committee.

Funding Mechanism

All scholarships are from income generated from  the Scholarship Trust Fund and from donations.  Fund raising activities are planned periodically to solicit donations to the Fund from both corporate and individual sponsors. The main fund raising event each year is the Chinese New Year Scholarship Ball, at which time scholarship and financial aid award recipients are recognized.
